Advanced Placement English has a two-fold purpose--to expose students to college level material and expectations and to prepare those so willing for the Advanced Placement English Exam in the late spring.  It is not assumed that everyone will be undertaking this exam, and thus the course is not designed solely for those who will take the exam.  The presumption is that the general demands placed on you in  both your reading and writing will prepare you for both the A.P. Exam and /or your pursuant college career.  College writing requires that you provide insight into the material you read and support that insight with specific relevant details.  This is exactly what we will  be working on throughout the year.  Major authors of classic literary canons across a variety of genre are studied in this college level class.  A research paper is required during second semester.  This is a fast-paced, writing-intensive course.
